Sambar Rice

Sambar Saatham

Easy to cook and simply have it with Appalam(Papad) or Lemon/Garlic Pickle or Cucumber Raitha.



Ingredients

  • Toor Dal - 50 gm
  • Par Boiled Rice - 200 gm
  • Tamarind Paste - 1 tbsp
  • Vegetables (Brinjal, Drumstick, Potato, Plantain) - 1 cup
  • Sambar Powder - 3 tsp 
  • Water - 800 ml 
  • Salt to taste


Seasoning

  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1 tsp 
  • Bengal Gram - 1 tsp
  • Red Chilly - 2
  • Shallot (Small Onion)  - 6
  • Curry Leaves - 1 twig 
  • Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp


Method

  • Half cook toor dal.
  • Add rice, vegetables, tamarind paste/extract, sambar powder, salt and water.
  • When the rice is well cooked, seasoned it.
  • Its ready to eat.....



Sambar Powder


Dry fry and Grind to fine powder 

  • Red Chilly 3
  • Coriander Seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Bengal Gram Dal - 1 tsp
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek Seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Black Pepper - 1/4 tsp
