Sambar Rice
Sambar Saatham
Easy to cook and simply have it with Appalam(Papad) or Lemon/Garlic Pickle or Cucumber Raitha.
Ingredients
- Toor Dal - 50 gm
- Par Boiled Rice - 200 gm
- Tamarind Paste - 1 tbsp
- Vegetables (Brinjal, Drumstick, Potato, Plantain) - 1 cup
- Sambar Powder - 3 tsp
- Water - 800 ml
- Salt to taste
Seasoning
- Mustard - 1 tsp
- Asafoetida - 1 tsp
- Bengal Gram - 1 tsp
- Red Chilly - 2
- Shallot (Small Onion) - 6
- Curry Leaves - 1 twig
- Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp
Method
- Half cook toor dal.
- Add rice, vegetables, tamarind paste/extract, sambar powder, salt and water.
- When the rice is well cooked, seasoned it.
- Its ready to eat.....
Sambar Powder
Dry fry and Grind to fine powder
- Red Chilly 3
- Coriander Seeds - 1 tbsp
- Bengal Gram Dal - 1 tsp
- Cumin - 1 tsp
- Fenugreek Seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Black Pepper - 1/4 tsp
