Ven Pongal...

Ven Pongal




Ingredients

  • Raw Rice - 200 gms
  • Moong dal - 50 gms
  • Salt as u wish
  • Fried Cashew for garnishing

For Seasoning

  • Mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
  • Black Pepper - 1 tsp
  • Cumin - 1/2 tsp
  • Red Chillies - 2 in number
  • Ginger pieces cut into thin stripes
  • Curry Leaves
  • No Oil , only 3 tbsp of Ghee 

Method

  • Roast the moong dal with little ghee till golden brown
  • Wash the raw rice, add fried dal
  • Water as required - for a measurement of rice-dal mix, add 3 measurements of water
  • Add salt
  • Let it half cook
  • Then keep kadai on the stove and pour ghee 
  • Add the seasoning things
  • Let the mustard  and pepper splutter 
  • Add to the rice and cook till rice fully cooked and mushy
  • Garnish with cashews.....
  • Have it for b'fast with coconut chutney...
